Definitely the best Christmas present ever! We have shared music, nature, and family through so many years.
Wesley Harlan Hockett came into my life when I was five and hurting from my parents' divorce. He was always so kind and supportive of Rick and I when we were writing songs for our band. His death in 1977 was shattering.
When I was 24 I re-established contact with my father. What a wonderful surprise it was to find out that I had two sisters and a brother by his second marriage.

This was the "golden age" of literature and music, a time that gave the world Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe. It was a time of exploration and expansion in the "New World" as England fought with Spain to rule the seas, culminating in the Armada. Elizabeth became the symbol of Britania and the renaissance that inspired national pride through classical ideals, international expansion, and naval triumph over the Spanish.. England was economically healthier, more expansive, and more optimistic than at any time in a thousand years.
It was also a time of spies, lies, plots, intrigues and conspiracies. A time when the "great spymaster" Sir Francis Walsingham set up an extensive network of spies that could easily rival our own CIA. It was also a time of spies, lies, plots, intrigues and conspiracies. A time when the "great spymaster" Sir Francis Walsingham set up an extensive network of spies that could easily rival our own CIA. Their web spanned not only Europe but also the Mediterranean—expanding and exploiting links across the continents. He was ambitious but also fiercely loyal to Elizabeth and England—even putting large sums of his own money into his foreign intelligence work. He pioneered covert operations spreading disinformation, exploiting double agents and deciphering codes that are still used today. Opponents viewed him as ruthless and cruel, those loyal to Elizabeth lauded him. However, his devious and cruel manner and persecution of enemies was typical of European governments of the time.
I have written six books about this turbulent and colorful era. First is FLAME OF DESIRE (Vickery) which begins the series with one of my "families" involved with Mary Tudor and her reign of terror. I have written six books about this turbulent and colorful era. First is FLAME OF DESIRE (Vickery) which begins the series with one of my "families" involved with Mary Tudor and her reign of terror. That is followed by DESIRE'S DECEPTION and HIGHLAND BRIDE which take place during the feud between Mary, Queen of Scots and Elizabeth that ends with Mary's beheading. SEA OF DESIRE (Vickery) tells the story of the Armada. MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DESIRE takes the reader into the world of Shakespeare and the theater through the eyes of Alandra, the stage master's daughter. DECEIT AND DESIRE (2019) centers upon a female playwright who becomes the student of Christopher Marlowe. She is determined to find out if his death was murder.
“A whirlwind of intrigue, murder, deception, and passion….” ROMANTIC TIMES
A deadly game of intrigue--passion, murder, betrayal and a deceit unveiled.
Scotland, 1565: A turbulent era, a rugged land, and the story of two pair of lovers that withstood the test of time…..
Upon her death, Mary Stuart became queen of Scotland in her own right and came into conflict with the indomitable Elizabeth Tudor.
Married against her will to a brutal highlander, beautiful lady-in-waiting Kylynn Gowrie felt her heart come alive when she encountered dashing Roarke MacKinnon. He swept into the court of Mary, Queen of Scots, to reclaim his family’s land, but Roarke’s tenderness claimed Kylynn’s heart. She yearned to be possessed by her forbidden English suitor.
But as Elizabeth I of England schemed against Kylynn’s beloved queen, fate made Roarke Kylnn's enemy. Could their passionate love conquer the deceptions of a ruthless and bloody war?
Mary, Queen of Scots, the great rival of Elizabeth I, Queen of England, was one of the most colorful personalities of the sixteenth century, as well as one of the most tragic queens in history. To this day she allures poets and biographers. Historians still quarrel bitterly over whether she was a murderess or a martyr, victim or beguiler, saint or wanton.
Moira MacKinnon's loyalty to Mary puts her life in danger and tests the strengh of her love for Captain Ryan Paxon. Like pawns in a treacherous conspiracy, a harrowing game of chess between two rival queens they become entangled in one of history’s greatest examples of espionage.
The Elizabethan privateers such as Sir Francis Drake, aka pirates, shared their profits with the government and Queen Elizabeth. They inspired my heros --Captains Ryan Paxton and Jonathan Leighton who are also privateers.
Sir Walter Raleigh was a poet, writer, explorer, spy, soldier and courtier. Was he in any way responsible for the murder of playwright Christopher Marlowe? That question inspired my latest novel.
Edward Teach - "Blackbeard" - was an English pirate whose base was in the West Indies. He terrorized the coast of Britain's New World Colonies in the early 1700's.
Imagine blue shimmering water in shades of pale to darkest blue; the gentle roar of the ocean, the sound of waves breaking over the sand, the cry of sea gulls circling overhead, the salty sea air---ultimate freedom. Ever since I was a little girl it had been my dream to sail away to exciting places with the wind at my back and nothing but the ocean before me. Stories such as TREASURE ISLAND, THE GOLDEN HAWK and CAPTAIN BLOOD fueled my fantasies. What would it have been like to be a pirate seeking adventure and buried treasure?
Between 1692 and 1725 was a time when reckless, bold men and daring women waged war on the wealthy and powerful. Living by their own pirate code of honor, these "brethren of the coast" elected their own officers, including the captain, and lived by the motto of share and share alike. Soon they had fused themselves into a loose-knit but powerful confederacy of robbers and rovers who terrorized all who looked upon their black flag with its white skull and crossbones. One of the most fearsome was Blackbeard.
Seeking her father's love and respect, Quinn Teach has driven herself to be as able a pirate as has ever sailed the seas. She wields a cutlass with flawless flair, shoots a pistol with deadly accuracy, swaggers, swears and rules her pirate ship with an iron hand. She has no worries at all until a stubborn sea captain is thrust into her life. Suddenly her world is shattered.
Captain Jared Cameron's life is turned upside down when his ship is overrun by pirates. Stripped of everything he holds dear, he finds himself the captive of the very woman he has reason to hate--Blackbeard's daughter. The irony of it all is that love always seems to bloom in the strangest of circumstances.
She was a beautiful young Irish woman, he was a bold Viking--mortal enemies drawn together by an emotion much stronger than hatred. Despite the differences of their worlds their love will overcome incredible odds.
